Routine Appointments
A doctor or nurse is available during most of the opening times (9.00am - 6.30pm). There is no doctor on site at Deri surgery on a Thursday but alternatively patients can attend clinics or speak to a doctor at White Rose Medical Centre.
Consultations are by appointment and are for 10 minutes as a standard but please tell us if you feel you will need more time.
For routine appointments, please try to book in good time as all the clinicians have different work patterns. See doctors page to find out which days of the week each doctor is in.
We now have a computerised booking-in system, which allows patients to check themselves in on arrival. Patients no longer need to queue.
NB: If you require a special examination or report for insurance, driving, employment etc. please mention this when you book the appointment so that enough time can be allotted.

Dr Same Day Appointments / Telephone Advice
To give you quick and convenient access to a medical professional for urgent medical problems, we operate a system for same day appointments either at the surgery or over the telephone.
Minor Illness / Telephone Advice
At certain times of the day, one of our specially trained nurses, Gaynor Richards and Sue Rowlands are available to speak to you and deal with minor illness concerns either for yourself or your children. If you have an urgent problem please inform the receptionist. Brief details of the issue help us to prioritise you call. She will organise for you to have the next available appointment.
Telephone Advice
For Telephone advice from a Doctor please phone the surgery on 01443 878300 after 10.00am in the morning, where you will be put onto the ‘Telephone consultation’ and the doctor will ring you back on the number you provide.
Making Appointments
Appointments can be made by telephoning (01443 878300) or calling in to the practice. If you cannot attend please let us know so that your appointment may be used for another patient. Please also let us know if you think you will be late. Patients more than 10 minutes late will need to make an alternative appointment to come back at a later time.
Arriving Late
If you are delayed and can let us know, then the next patient can be seen and the doctor’s session will still run to time. If you arrive more than 10mins late without prior warning you will be asked to re-book your appointment.
Home Visits
Monday - Friday
If you are too ill to come to the surgery, please phone as early in the day as you can - a doctor will call you back and will come out to see you at home if necessary. Please note that home visits are at the doctors discretion and are based on medical advice. Our policy at White Rose Medical Centre is that the doctors will not visit children at home. Children who are ill are should be brought to the Centre for an emergency appointment where they will undergo a thorough assessment.
Please do not ask for a visit if you are well enough to attend or be brought to the surgery.
Week Nights & Weekends
Please see Out of Hours Services information below.
Out of Hours Service
Caerphilly Local Health Board has responsibility to provide out of hours GP services to all practices.
If you need to see a doctor during the evening (after 6.00pm) or at the weekend, simply phone the surgery number 01443 878300 and the Out of Hours number will be provided. Alternatively you can contact the Out of Hours service directly on 0845 6001231. Please note this service is for emergencies only and we would ask you to try and use the service correctly. (This service is available from 6.30pm to 9.00am – Monday to Friday, Thursday from 1.00pm and also on weekends)
Please do not ring for appointments or routine enquiries outside normal hours.
Cancelling Appointments
DNA’s - what are they? They are ‘did not attends’ or missed appointments. Recently, we have been looking more closely at these as part of our efforts to improve your access to the appointment time and doctor you would prefer. 6 DNAs translates to an hour of wasted doctor time. On average 160 booked appointments at White Rose are not being used each month because patients do not attend (and don’t let us know beforehand). This translates to 26 hours of wasted doctor and nurse time each month, and means that other patients might be waiting longer than necessary for their appointments.
Please help us to resolve this by:
1. Taking care to remember your appointment days and times;
2. Telephoning us to cancel your appointment in good time so that it can be given to someone else.
Solving this problem will give you shorter waiting times to access your doctors and nurses and improve our service to you.
If you cannot keep an appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that your appointment can be offered to another patient. You can phone the surgery on 01443 878300.
